Welcome to So Sew Chic

Tucked away in an old warehouse, behind weathered brick and a nondescript door, is a studio where fabric quietly becomes something extraordinary. This is where a seamstress works by hand, shaping and altering garments with patience, precision, and imagination—known mostly by word of mouth, and treasured by those lucky enough to find her.

                    Located here

                    1657 S Getty Muskegon

She works in front of the giant window, wrapped in natural light, stitching with steady hands and gentle focus. The studio is calm and welcoming, with everything in its place and room to breathe. Though she’s often deep in her work, she’s always happy to pause for a walk-in fitting, offering a friendly smile and thoughtful guidance. It’s a space where craftsmanship feels personal, unhurried, and comfortably familiar—like a place you’re meant to find.

If you happen to pass the old warehouse, don’t hesitate to step inside. Head up to the second floor and follow the quiet hum of creativity and the light in the window. This is the kind of place you seek out when you want something altered or made with care, and the kind of seamstress you’re glad you found.

If you’re someone who appreciates quiet craftsmanship and a personal touch, this little studio is worth seeking out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get my garment(s) back?

The turnaround time is normally a week.  The holiday season can see turnaround times extend to 2-3 weeks so plan ahead.  Formal wear and more complicated alterations may need more than one visit but that will be explained during the first fitting.

What do you work on?

I work on all types of clothing, women, men and children. Alterations for everyday clothes, mending , household items, military, uniforms, zippers.  Unsure? Just ask me.

I do NOT work on Leather or Wedding dresses.  See below.

What payments do you take?

Cash or Venmo at pick up.  No items are released until paid in full.

Are you taking on custom projects?

Yes I am.  Dreaming of something unique, with a special functionality,  or that just fits ?   Let's talk and see if I can make it happen.

What do I need to bring with me ?

Your garments, shoes and undergarments you will wear with garment. Why?  Shoes change your posture and undergarments can change the way your body is shaped and I check to make sure everything stays covered that needs to stay covered.

If you plan on changing shoe heights with pants,  bring them all so we can get the perfect length.

How do I find you?

I am located in the My Space building at 1657 S Getty on the SECOND FLOOR .  As you come in the front doors, you can ask the Lobby receptionist for directions or if you've been here before come on up.  If you have a lot to carry, contact me when you get here and I will come down and help you.  Text 231-767-5985.

What is the definition of Formalwear ?

Any item you would wear as a bridesmaid or wedding guest, prom and other school dances, gala etc.....  These garments are made from special fabrics that  require more time and skills to work with.  Chiffon, Satins, Sequins, Lace, are just few examples.

All formal wear fitting require foundation garments and shoes.

NO Leather or Wedding dresses

I do NOT work on either.

I do not own the heavy duty machine needed for stitching leather items.

Wedding dresses specifically require a dedicated skill set to meet all the needs for a bride.  Find yourself a specialist in wedding gowns.  I am not that seamstress.

Do you take appointments?

Starting in October 2025 I will be taking appointments from 4-6pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  The building is closed after 4 so you will have to meet me at the side door to be let in.

Text 231-767-5985 to set those up.

Contacting

As you might experience also, I get a lot of calls that are labeled "potential spam".

Please text me  or leave a voicemail and I will respond back to you during business hours.  Pictures and the more detailed your message, the better I can answer your questions.

I'm too busy to waste my time with spam calls.

Quotes

It is practically impossible to quote over the phone. I have to see the garment in person. I examine the construction to gauge how it is assembled and how difficult or easy it will be to open it up to do the work needed.  I aim to be accurate with my sewing and my prices.  At the time of your fitting you will be given a firm price for the job.  If you change the job and more work is needed that was unexpected to achieve your needs, that price will be revisited.

Why are zipper replacements in winter coats so expensive?

To put it simply, there's a lot to unpick.  Sometimes you have to add more stitching to keep it together while working on it.  (Down coats) Some have flaps and other details that have to be put back together. Parts have gone up in price. It's a time consuming job.

I always go over any zipper that is brought to me. If your zipper is missing teeth or insertion pins at the bottom are frayed or missing,   it will need to be replaced.  If the zipper is intact but isn't staying zipped it is probably the pull and that is easily replaced.

Unsure? Bring it in and I will go over it.
